North Carolina Entertainment Industries

The Policy, Research and Strategic Planning Division maintains data on the state’s economy for use by industrial clients, policy makers and the general public. Other services provided by the Division include economic impact and policy analysis, program evaluation, and ad hoc research and analysis of various economic development issues. In addition, Policy and Research staff assist the NC Economic Development Board with its strategic planning, research, and policy development activities.

Effectiveness of the W.S. Lee Act

During the past five years, the William S. Lee Act has been the state's principal economic development incentive tool. It's purposes are to help firms stay competitive, encourage modernization and investment in new technologies, and ensure economic growth in all parts of the state. Three newly published reports evaluate the Act's effectiveness in achieving those goals.

Economic Development Information System (EDIS)

This database is designed to be a clearinghouse of information for companies considering North Carolina as a potential place to do business. EDIS contains the following:

NC Economic Review - last updated 2004

This report, produced annually, ranks North Carolina in relation all other states on various economic indicators, including net migration, per capita income, cost-of-living, unemployment. Also included are statewide data on announced jobs and investment and manufacturing employment.

Data Maintained by Other Commerce Divisions:

  • International Trade Statistics - These export statistics show how much North Carolina companies export, to which countries, and which products are shipped.
  • Travel Economics - Information on economic impact of travel and tourism in North Carolina.
